Animal Expression!
Dec. 11th, 2006 11:09 pmI really really love my drawing animal expression for animation class. Dave is the best and though he has been teaching us how to draw 'realistic' animals, it's always been with the intent that once you know the forms, you can play with them and have fun. Something about his classes inspire me to draw weird ass stuff and I really like it!
So here's a couple of sketches from my last class. Webspace curtsey of VCL.
Gorilla need Coffee
We were talking about rendering fur and started drawing gorillas and after drawing a few 'realistic' gorillas that I wasn't happy with, I remembered Mike Mignola talking about how HellBoy had evolved from him liking to draw gorillas with bolts in their necks, and I drew this goon. He looks three days hung over and in need of some very black coffe. I love him! This is, without a doubt, the best gorilla I've ever drawn in my life! :)
Elephants!
Okay, so I thought the elephants were stiff and boring to draw and at one point, one Dave's sketches had a very cthuloid form to me and that got me off in the direction of predatory elephant! Then someone was saying they were having trouble drawing elephants because their trunk kept coming out all stretched out like a limp hose, so I drew the skinny elephant with the hose nose and felt it was strangely in proportion for being totally out of proportion, so then I took it the other direction and made an inflated balloon elephant. :) I like him. He's cute! ^_^
I know that lately I've been on a good drawing streak in Dave's classes. Hope it lasts long after the classes. He's been a great instructor and has definitely been a good influence on my artwork. :)
