Sunday School

If church had been like class on Sunday, I might have had a stronger sense of religion. TV-Y71, Bay Area Animators... Now _THIS_ is a class. No homework, no quizzes, no tests. You just spend three Sundays out of the quarter sitting in a dark theatre watching cartoons and talking about them, plus you get to meet local animators at professional studios and hang out with them. All this AND two hours of college credit! So I'm adding this
class and now at 15 credit hours. :) Of course, I can also work on material for other classes while taking this class, so it just completely rules.
However, most of the animations produced in the Bay Area are prett dark. Geez. We watched 'The Plague Dogs' and 'James and the Giant Peach'. Kinda funny tho. It was like going down a list of animated films I own (weird considering I don't own too many) I'm *REALLY* looking forward to _FINALLY_ getting to see the 'Liquid Television' animation from MTV. We didn't have cable when I was a kid.

Now that is a class I would love!

Never even heard of the Plague Dogs. Is it good?

Plague Dogs is done by the same team that did the animated version of 'Watership Down'. I believe th story is also written by the same writer as 'Watership Down'. The story is about two dogs who have escaped from a research lab where animal vivisection is performed. It's rather dark and manages to handle the subject without being too preachy (surprisingly). The end is really abysmally depressing. I liked this movie the first time I saw it (About 10 years ago) but it's been somewhat wrecked for me by having had too much contact with Furry Lifestyler types. If you can watch it without comparing it to furries, it is a decent (if depressing) film.

I think that's a plus having kids -- I CAN watch cartoons without thinking "furry". Usually doesn't cross my mind. (Plus when it comes to RL contact, I've been to just one con for an afternoon, and the people I've hung out with RL aren't lifestylers, just people who happen to be on FM.)

I'll keep an eye out for it.
