Okay. I finally have all the props built and functioning and figured out the camera angles. I did the live-action parts the night before last with the help of [livejournal.com profile] centauress operating the camera. I still need to do the audio clips for WireHead and make my dope sheets but otherwise, I'm ready to go. So... Here's a production shot!

As you can see, the laser is now wired up. the cable runs out of the head, through the base and down through the stage using a CAT-5 cable RJ-45 plug (so I don't have to cut a huge hole in my stage) This plugs into a little breadboard bit which has the power input (I went with an AC adaptor so it also plugs into this board) and the switches as well. I should take a photo of it. It's one of the most elegant-looking bits of electronics I've ever built. :)

The red LEDs seem to have a lower voltage to light than the other LEDs and since they're all wired in parallel, turning on a red dims the greens and yellows. I countered this by putting a red power indicator on the switch unit. Seems to work okay now but I really should learn more about electronics. I bet there's a better way to do this.

Other things. Umm. the cable makes the laser head weirder to move but I think it'll be okay. The Osciallascope and Jacob's ladder in the background will have their effects animated in after effects. Should be fun. Especially the lighting and distortion as the ladder arc passes behind the tube of the laser.

Umm. Other than that... Guh. guess that's about it for this post. Any input would be appreciated.

Wow, those props look nifty. I've seen your other Wirehead animations and I'm looking forward to this one.
Hey, didn't Goldfinger have a laser cannon that looked just like yours? ;)

Eee! Mad scientist toys (Osciallascope and Jacob's Ladder) *bounce bounce bounce* That just sreams brilliant, misunderstood and willing to do something cranky about it.

Not only do I like your stuff, but the kids ASK to see it, and since I bookmarked some things, I find them poking around looking for your animations.
