Illustrator Rules!

Okay, maybe this battle cry is a little pre-mature, but I dout it. It looks like Illustrator is capable of automating the whole 'convert bitmap to vectors and remove background' thing that we've been doing manually with Flash. It looks like it can do this AND export all of the illustrator files it generates to a single Flash animation. Wow.
Now I know the tool is there, I have to figure out how to use it. :) Still. Very nifty. I love Illustrator.

Any bitmap to vectors?

Theorhetically, although usually you get varying degrees of success for more complex and colour images. Works great for my line-drawing stuff though.

So it would work better on greyscale/line art?

For the most part, yes. It will work best on more high-contrast and even coloured things. This is one of those points that the best way to learn is just to fiddle with it though.

Interesting. Do you get discounts on adobe software through school? I'm curious about getting a copy to fiddle with.

I never could figure out Illustrator.

Just can't understand it, the underlying concepts.

I think even professional users feel this way. It is a great program but totally unfriendly at times even downright hostile.
