I found this strangely arousing, but also a little worrisome. It feels like the first step towards the right wing wiping us out. :/

I does sound pretty worrisome, if anything should come of it. : / But if the above commenter is right, at least this line's nice in the article:

I'm kind of leery about this overemphasis on sociobiology, really. I remember a book coming out a few years ago where the authors essentially claimed men aren't to be blamed for rape, since it's a simple genetic survival strategy, as evidenced by the fruit fly.

Human society is really very different from the fruit fly variety, and that part of the argument's being glossed over by necessity. ^_~ And I think those elements play a very large part, even in simple interpersonal relations. Besides, it doesn't follow that simply because a situation naturally occurs, it's also ethical.

Anyone actually trying to isolate a gay gene so queers can be 'cured' is engaging in an odd doublethink: heterosexuality is necessary for reproduction, so it's natural. Homosexuality also occurs in nature, but doesn't seem to serve reproduction, so it's the unnatural kind of natural; therefore, it would be perfectly fine to artificially modify any responsible genes so the 'aberration' gets 'fixed'.

Too bad we as a society still haven't progressed to the point where we can throw up our hands and say "who cares, anyway?" ^_~

Whether or not this thread of discovery can be used to remove homosexuality or transgendered behavior from the genepool doesn't mean it will be. Humans are far more complex beings; mammals in general are. That's why they don't study them in this manner. (That and fruitflies grow in hours, not weeks or decades)

We turned away from manipulation back in the thirties and forties... A century later, when it'll be possible, would we do it again?

Hm. Supposing, The gene for homosexuality and/or transgenderisim is linked to things for intelegence? Being as, if I remember right, the average IQ of those who are, is higher than those who are 'normal'?

So, you wind up with a nation of streight, uptight, gene tampering, drooling idiots. Right. Moving to somewhere else, anyone? x.x?
