Nothing about anything
Feb. 22nd, 2005 01:02 amI'm always posting about art and politics and stuff. How about a nice normal post about 'what I did today'?
Well, letsee. Stacey was out until 5AM playing Warcraft but I went to Jeff and Dasha's house int he rain and knocked on the window. She came out and we went for an early morning walk around the neighborhood as the sun rose. We were both wearing raincoats. it was kinda nice and romantic. Then we went home, cuddled up, and slept until nearly two. Gah. We got up and were going to go pay our water bill. We were going to bicycle but it started raining, so we drove instead. Of course, the place was closed, but it was right by the library and the parks so we walked around there for a bit. There was a really beautiful tulip tree in full bloom and squirrels in the lawn. There's also a great sculpture at the library of a young man sitting and reading (cast in bronze) It struck me as interesting because he's reading a book in spanish but eating a hamburger. It's somehow more american than most of america. We hung out at the library (also closed) for a while too, just sitting and talking beneath and old cork tree and watching the squirrels play.
I decided I was going to make thai yellow curry for dinner and we went to the indian market near our house to get coconut milk... Except we were disappointed to learn that our favourite market (New India Market) (they had wonderful produce) was closed (for good. :( ) The building is being remodeled and Bhaat Bazaar is going to open there (not sure if it's a second store or if they're moving locations) So we went to India Spice House near Safeway and got the coconut milk. They also have cans of breadfruit which I'd like to try next time I have a couple extra dollars to spare.
This reminded me that someone had mentioned that what they thought was the BEST ice cream in the bay area was located near the intersection of El Camino Real and Lawrence (About a mile from our house) so I decided to go look for it. We stopped in the current location of Bhaat Bazaar and looked around. I had heard their produce was good but they were further from our house and are in an inconvenient location so we'd never been there. It was a lot more cluttered and cramped than New India but most of the prices were comparable. It also was split into 4 sort of rows that were almost like separate markets. One for health and herbs and stuff, one that was the market area, a chaat room, and then sort of 'housewares' and video rental. In the last, there were bolts of beautiful fabric. They also sell some really heavy-duty flatbread presses, the kind that you can put directly on the burner. Cast iron with a really polished press plate. Must have. Also big heavy-duty nut grinders. Like a meat grinder but for pulverizing spices. I've been looking all over for one of these things. In the back there was a room full of shy and nervous-looking young women who were having henna done. I wish I knew more about henna than 'It's pretty'. I should put it on my list of things to read about one of these days.
After purchasing some barfi and something that (I think) was wintermelon soaked in syrup, we resumed our quest for the ice cream parlour. We stopped at another indian market (did I mention that the only things I knew about this icecream place were that it was near the intersection of Wolf and El Camino and that it was an Indian Ice Cream place) Stacey smartly looked at their ice cream and, naturally, they carried the brand of ice cream from the place we were looking for and their address was on the container. 3077 El Camino. (Easy walking distance from
prickvixen's house. We went there. They're closed on Mondays. >_< Ohwell. We stopped at the Galleria on the way back. Stacey looked around a store filled with Cute. Ieeee. Then I got a pickle lunch which had roast and tea egg and garlic in it. Yum. We went home and ate lunch, then took a shower together. I went to get dressed but was drowsy and fell asleep. When she got out of the shower she came in and cuddled me and also fell asleep. We woke up around 9PM. Augh! I made the aforementioned curry with gold potatos, fried tofu, broccoli, and slices of carrot. It turned out pretty good. Now I'm procrastinating on finishing up my homework.
So. Um.. what else can I say... Um... I have homework I'm procrastinating on and um... I'm procrastinating and... Dangit. I guess I'm out of excuses. I'd better get to work. :/
