Free as a Bird
Oct. 29th, 2004 11:52 amSo.. Within the next week I will be really once and for all done with Free as a Bird, I'm very close to the end now. I've just got like 2 backgrounds to add, then an effects layer and final render.
It's weird looking at this piece now. It's been 'almost done' for a long long time and yet I've let it linger on for two years. It hit a point where it was hard to finish though. The animation now looks so crude and stiff. It's very stop and start with lots of holds and loops and little in the way of overlapping motion. When I first started it, the character designs seemed elegant and they were a major struggle for me to make them move in any coherent way at all and yet now I think I could likely as not rip though most of the animation in this project in less than a weekend and get far better results.
However, I am not going to do that. It's time to move on. I've spent enough time on this project and I've learned a lot from it but it's time to just get it done, take the lessons I've learned and make something new and better. It was a good first project and a valuable learning experience but I don't think I'll miss working on it. I still have a lot to learn.
I wonder if maybe I shouldn't take a break from big projects for a bit and go back to producing odd little shorts.

This reminded me of you - Joe R. (Artist)
Taking a step back from projects is good; if only for your own sanity. My, I re-started an existing project of my own; migrating the significant record collection my grandfather left me to CD. In the process, I figure a few of my uncles old records got mixed in.
I was recording a record from the band Epic (Ugh, this 80's music is all love songs and I put my foot down at 'The Cure') when I found a song named Tough Guys (http://www.practialdesigns.com/critique/06_tough_guys.mp3).
Well, I got to thinking about Bush, then you popped into my head, and well... ;)
BTW, why is all the reply section text in Japaneese?
