Don't Ask Don't Tell

Here's a cool little bit of trivia I've known for a while but never mentioned but it seems timely so here it is:

Hey all you right-wing assholes! Did you know that you owe your freedom to a faggot?

Oh yes, it's true. Look up the name Baron von Steuben.

He's the man that came to Valley Forge during that cold dark winter and taught americans how to fight, how to organize, and how to be a real army. He literally wrote the book on american military practices that is STILL in use today. So you can also thank him in part for our successes in all the major wars we've fought. Any historian will tell you that he was a brilliant military mind and is widely credited as turning the rag-tag american soldiers into a formidable fighting force.

What some of them will be less inclined to tell you is that the fledgling United States got him for free. In 1776 he was discharged from his command in Prussia on charges of sodomy. He was facing prison or even execution for homosexuality.

Ben Franklin offered him a way out and he came to America and worked for the continental army without pay until years after the war when he was discharged honorably and given a pension for his service to our country.

Ain't that a bitch! I mean if you have any respect for our founding fathers or our veterans, it's time you faced facts. We owe our life, liberty and our whole goddamned country to a faggot.

Or we could talk about Alan Turing if you like. Aside from being one of the major reasons allied forces beat the nazis (despite being queer as a 3 dollar bill) he made some other pretty important contributions to this discussion. But go on. You have a computer. You can look it up. :)

Now show a little f***ing respect for some heroes. You OWE them.
