The Real Dirt on Farmer John
Jun. 8th, 2009 01:08 amWatching The Real Dirt on Farmer John on PBS. About the guy that owns Angelic Organics. Lots of old film footage from his farm with all the hippies working there in the 70s and all the stuff going on there now. Really really awesome people and a really awesome place and a great film. Definitely recommend giving it a watch if you happen to see it in the program listings.
Large parts of me would like to move back out somewhere and do more farm work like I used to. Hard work but good stuff. The idea of an organic commune farm like this is really really awesome. *sigh*
Speaking of commune stuff. Stacey and I have been doing a lot of cleaning. We've still got a fair bit left to do, but sometime in the next week or two, we're going to start a project that I've titled, "Dinner for Wayward Travelers" ... In short, we've been eating out way too much lately. I love to cook and I'm a pretty decent cook and, truth be told, for many meals I can easily feed 10 people for what it costs the 2 of us to eat out.
So we're going to post what we're planning for dinner a couple nights in advance and ask for a rough count of how many people want to come over and then cook enough for everyone. Probably be doing this at least once or twice a week, maybe more. Have to see how it goes.
It's going to be vegetarian fare, but I cook a wide variety of stuff. On the announce we'll post notes for wheat, milk, nuts, and mushrooms (store-bought unless specifically noted as wild-harvest) Actually, I'll try to post entire ingredient lists and recipes for dishes if I have time.
But I've drifted way off topic. Anyhow. Farmer John rocks.
