Hopi Pots

So here's my 'finished' project for my Maya class. The object was to research a type of pottery, make a pot, texture it, put it in a scene, and light it.

Being me, I had to do several pots and choose a difficult lighting situation, but I'm reasonably happy with the result, except for the wall. The mesh is a little too simple and gets a bit too angular on the edge, but it's probably passible if I hadn't mentioned it.

Anyhow. Yikes. 1AM. Way past bedtime! O_O

Stacey and I have thought about doing this.

I decided to upload my maya scene to Deviant Art and then, just for kicks, I browsed around the gallery I put it in:

I quickly realized two things.
1) Most people can't light/texture things worth beans, probably because they're spending all of their time on modeling and not thinking about the lighting and they're trying to use 'real' lights in the scene. That's not the way our mind sees things so 'real' lights make things look fake.

2) Most of this stuff could be rendered successfully in SL.
