So... I've been working on this Persimmon animation more! It's hard not to. I find that I'm all giggly and bouncey and bubbly when I work on it and really enjoying it. I feel like I'm also really starting to get the feel of much more cartoony motion. Still a long ways to go but I'm starting to relax and enjoy the ride.

On the other hand, the bouncey little varmit is a handful! Nothing I do for her looks good at my standard 12FPS and I've switched to animating almost everything in 24FPS so far. O_O Ouchy! I think it's looking pretty good so far though. I'll try to scan a new sequence tonight if I finish drawing it. :)

Still truding away at the charcoal coloring of Free as a Bird *sigh* Don't get me wrong, I do like this project, I just wish the last 400 cels would colour themselves magically. :) I guess I also have that odd 'dead project' relationship with it. For me, the project is done, I've moved on as an artist to a new and different style. As such I'm ready to let go of this project, but I'm also stubborn and will finish this project.

I'm up past bedtime! Eee!

I wanted to photo this though

It's the first test of the next section of the Persimmon cartoon (She has just waved in her extremely frantic manner and made a sonic boom). It needs work. Here's the short list of things I see that are wrong with it. Any other insights would be very appreciated!

  1. Shiver doesn't work. Part of this is due to paper noise, partly its just not convincing. Sweat drops perhaps?
  2. Cat transistion into blown position is rough and doesn't match start of loop. (I shot the wrong cels and was too tired to swap them out)
  3. Arms are too rubbery.
  4. Tail isn't rubbery enough.

Okay, that seems like a lot more than it really is, I think. The things I am reasonably happy with are the anticipation going into the wind-blasted position for both the cat and the tree, the overlap of the leaves dropping off with the cycle of the tree, and the overlap of the cat going into his blown position. I'm really happy with the tree, its almost exactly how I want it, that was a brain-bending S-curve-a-rama of floppiness! I basically like the tension of the cat and expression and stuff, just needs some small cleanup.

PS: The wave-loop is longer than it will be in the finished piece, the cat gets blown out of scene at about the 4-second mark. I just haven't animated that yet.

Let me know if there's anything else that needs fixing. :)
