Ultimate cramming technique... GO!
I studied all weekend. Mostly japanese, a little guitar. I need to get the animation and Illustrator classes caught up tonight, but I was way more behind in japanese than anything else.
I've reached the point where it's really pretty fun. I now write quickly and fairly legibly and I understand what I'm reading in hirogana or katakana. Still lots to learn of course, but I think I'll do very well on the test. This was definetely not a class to be taken with such a heavy class/work load though. It left very little breathing room.
One interesting thing noted in my lesson book: The japanese obsession with books. 99.9% of the population is literate and reading is considered one of the national pasttimes. They have an extensive library system and over 99% of the applicable population have been to some kind of secondary school. Almost everyone can speak at least 2 and more typically 3 languages, etc, etc, etc.
So... We watched 'Cardcaptor Sakura' while studying and something dawned on me... As a culture for american kids to emulate, the japanese one really isn't bad at all. Yes, there's a lot of sexism within the culture but, what americans see is mostly 'stubborn girls' in anime. I can think of scarce few girls in anime that aren't portrayed as extremely smart and striving for excellent grades in school. Further, most female anime characters are strong in some kind of athletic. Soccer or track and field is most common. Good aerobic exercise. So... Yay anime! :)
Now I need to study more but I just got an 'out' for testing. Hurray!
