I'm back from my first night of class and it went great! I really like the professor, Mr. Lisha. He's sort of upper-middle-age with a distinctive profile, a bit like Allen Alda. He's got a very nice accent which I can't quite place, but he's got a really great style of teaching, almost hypnotic but very positive, friendly, and enthusiastic without being saccharine or overbearing. Actually, he stated my last post in a much more eloquent way than I was able to, and gave me a lot of ideas for exploring myself through film.

You come out of the first night of the class, knowing that not only can you make a film, you can make a good film. Lots of great positive energy, and ideas for getting around artists blocks and dealing with problems on the fly. We spent a bit of time looking at final projects from some of his earlier students and then we analyzed some commericals. I think I've got a pretty big lead on the rest of the class in as far as I have already made several short films and I've taken classes on film history and photography (which spent a lot of time on lighting and setting scenes and stuff) Most of the other students seem pretty fresh and unexperienced. I'm happy to report that 'My parents are rich and I'm an Art student' content of the class was also very very low. There were a lot of middle-eastern students, four or five black students, three hispanic, and several Asian (including two really cute bishy guys! =) Quite a diverse mix!

I know it's really waspy of me to excited by that, but I grew up in rural Oklahoma and was not encouraged to assosciate with 'them', which is really sad. I've always been really fascinated by other cultures. Differences are what make the world such an interesting place! Anyhow, I'm really looking forward to the cultural aspects of being in such a diverse class!

Unfortunetely, the class was reallyreallyreally overfull. I wasn't allowed to sign up until almost the last minute because it's my first semester at DeAnza, but I was at least on the wait list. Fortunetely there were like two no-shows for the class which ment I was student #27 in a class of 30! Yay! I'm in!!!! There were another 30 people on the wait-list who didn't get in, and a couple dozen more that showed up to Add, so I'm really glad I got up at 6AM and did the waiting list adds within minutes of opening. :)

Tomorrow night is oil-painting! I'm on the wait-list for that class too. I think I'll get in but wish me luck anyhow! Now I haveta get to bed! Busybusybusy! :)

PS: Thanks Kibbles for the great suggestions! It got me moving again! Yesterday Stacey and I went to a Dim sum lunch and then started shooting film. Unfortunetely, I'd left my camera on all through lunch and I ran out of battery power after like 5 scenes.
