GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! It's little wonder that no one remember Nielson Hordell as animation stand makers. This thing is frequently such a piece of crap. Did you know the platten glass is GLUED to the frame. Not bolted, not wired or fitted but GLUED glass to metal. There's also no shock absorber on the platten arm so if you miss the catch and drop it, it drops it hard, glass on metal.

Surprisingly, the glass didn't break. The glue did.

So instead of photographing the 80 frames of animation I was really proud of tonight, I spent it scraping old glue off and putting new glue on. In an ironic twist of fate (for an animation stand) I ended up using my little anvil to hold the glass to the metal (in addition to clips. Fixing an animation stand with an anvil. How ironic, yet amusing.

*sigh*

So anyhow, about the animation...

It's the horse-at the piano. I realized I needed to finish it up. I got a wild and decided to ink it by hand (since I do this slightly faster than inking on the computer and I'm less likely to cheat) I also decided to try doing it with a dip-pen instead of a tech pen. I wanted some variation in line weights and dip-pen doesn't bleed as much as tech pen. (At least,t he kind with felt tips, I think my rapidos might get a similar result to the dip pen but they seemed like too much hassle for tonight)

To make a long story short, I am VERY pleased with using the dip pens. I did 80-odd frames in about 3 hours. My lines came out MUCH smoother and cleaner than they do with a tech pen and have much sharper edges and much truer blacks.

I also inked directly over the original pencils, then erased the pencil out after it was dry. A bit daring but I managed to ink all o them without a single mistake or ink-blob. I was really looking forward to scanning and vectorizing them. *sigh* I wish I'd got ahold of that Oxberry. Of course, it wouldn't have fit in my space. Damned either way, I suppose. At least the composite rotations on this one work. The damn designers just need to learn something about shock, recoil, safeties, etc.

then again, it's probably been taken apart and put back together so many times before I got it, maybe I can't blame them. I think I can rig it to operate more safely. Haveta think about that a bit.

And now you've gone and triple-posted. LJ's been a bit flaky today, though, so can't blame ya.

Maybe they are just the first three frames of a new animation?

If you flip through them quickly, you'll see slight differences?

Or maybe I should be sleeping.

Ya, well, see, that's because I fixed the animation stand pretty quickly and without hurting myself with the chisel, so something else inane had to happen. I have these days where the universe goes out of it's way to piss me off. I'm just used to it. :)
