Well.

Here's the URL to the first set of my pencil tests from last quarter (things that loop) http://circle.twu.net/animate/pencil/loopy.html I'll have to make a second page of pencil-test mini-movies but it's going to require some more photography, so I'm going to do it later.

I guess when they're played tiny like this with a lot of distraction around them, they really aren't so bad as they feel. I have a strange duality about this. On the one hand, they're leagues better than anything else that was in my animation class last quarter and there's only one that's better in my curent class (and he's in this class for his 6th time) So I guess I should feel sort of good about that, but on the other hand, it's leagues beneath professional animation

This is little better than animated fridge art. I guess I feel sorry for my instructor that he has to spend day in and day out looking at stuff worse than this. I'd go mad. In my class last quarter, people couldn't even get basic acceleration curves and bouncing balls right. O_O I guess something that really bothers me in my animation class is that many of the people in the class seem to be the 'Maf is hard' variety of would-be artists. One or two have even been actively hostile to the notion that animation requires an understanding of math and physics.
*sigh* of course, the other side of the coin is that I know about math and physics but have no sense of asthetic. I can only make animation that moves in an accurate mechanical sense. I can't seem to convey personality in motion and my drawing style is pretty dull. I am trying to work on that but it seems like such a difficult topic to approach. Anyhow. I need to go cuddle my spouse, who is still in bed at 2:30PM. O_O
