Cross-posting this to my own journal for friends. *sigh* This really ticks me off. :/ I'd seriously been considering joining Curves prior to seeing this:

If the pro-life centers that he donates to are giving women medical and emotional support during pregnancy and afterwards, then that's not so bad. That's more pro-life than anti-choice.

If he's giving to Operation Rescue, that's something else.

And as pro-choice as I am, I will not support Planned Parenthood in any way because they tried to encourage me to have an abortion when I was pregnant with Kayleigh, and would not give me any information about prenatal care. (I was unsure if she was a pre-existing condition so as we were waiting for the insurance company to get back to us, I wanted to see what my prenatal options were.)

By the way, has anyone done any research into the curves workout, if those short little bursts of excercise have any results? I mean as long as you are moving, you're doing good, but are you toning, can you tone, in the short amount of time each station is?

The former gym rat in me is cynical.

Wow. I never knew that about Planned Parenthood. *sigh* And all have feet of clay.

I've got a lot of friends who have done very well with Curves. They've lost weight (well, inches - weight isn't really discussed all that much) and seemed to gain stamina. The place isn't really designed for people who are really fit or working on sculpting - they go for resistance machines with no settings to play with, and are mostly trying to get and keep people moving in a supportive environment with other [usually rather overweight] women.

Don't base my Planned Parenthood thing on what happened with one office, in one city, in 1994. I should have put that disclaimer.

They do a lot of good, it's just that I really have a hard time getting past what happened when I contacted them, back then. I had miscarried before I got pregnant, years before, and we had given up on concieving before I got pregnant (medical condition I had). So it really shook me up when they had that attitude.

(And it wasn't a pre-existing condition, everyone lived happily ever after.)

Curves sounded like a good idea, but the registration fee was a bit steep, and now I don't even live near one so the point is moot. I walk so much every day, I've been losing weight without trying. Not FAST, but it's coming off.

I think this pretty-much sums it up:
but Heavin is unfazed. "There's nothing healthy about abortion," he says. "I'm not afraid to tell the truth."

Definetely anti-abortion and looking at a new-angle for attacking it (IE: Health)

Also, just for the record, from the position of someone who's done clinic defense and such, those 'Oh, we'll help you!' people are the worst of the lot. I've heard dozens of first-hand accounts of them helping you... Riiiiight up until the baby is born. Then they have to go save some other life and leave you to deal with it. I would be intensely skeptical of trusting them at all. They have a clear cut motive and once that objective is met, they have no use for you any more.

Yeah, her experience with them is totally against their policy.

In any organization there's good people and bad.

...For instance, I tend to still eat Domino's pizza 'cause most of my money goes to the locals, not corp. There's alot of decisions to make when looking at what to support and not support...
