The Cat
Well. I think, unless someone sees something horribly wrong with <A HREF="http://circle.twu.net/animate/pencil/freebird_web.mov>Free as a Bird</A> I am going to leave it in this form for FC. There's lots of things I'd like to do to it, of course but there simply isn't enough time to do them and re-photograph them all. *sigh* I think I could probably get the artwork done, just not the photography and cleanup.
Que sera sera I suppose.
On the other hand, I did get it submitted to the Media Arts competition. Izabella did not submit her animation so luckily I won't be losing for certain. However, the other 'better than me' student did submit something. On the bright side though, I got to look at it and I think I may beat it. He is a much better animator than me BUT, he hasn't got a good sense of composition or visual storytelling. His submission was a pencil test he did a year ago with a cracklique art treatment applied over it. the Cracklique actually obscures a lot of his contour and makes his drawing seem less impressive. The entire thing is also in a wide shot and very static.
He still has pretty darned good physics, but I have some physics, a lot of Z-axis motion, biped, quadruped, and winged motion, character stylization, good visual storytelling skills, a very good story, decent music, and pretty good sound effects. Mine is also all draw where his is loaded into Toonz, to sorta pho-ink it, and mine is about 5 times longer than his. So I think I have a pretty solid chance of beating him. Of course, there could still be someone fantastic from another school, so I shouldn't be counting my chickens just yet, but I'm pretty confident I have the win for as far as submissions from my school go.
