Re: In defence of being smug to Christians

I understand what they're doing and the immediate need to do so. But I also understand that the direct approach doesn't work with a lot of people. You give them an idea and they shut down and refuse to process it. I've pushed people on the topic of faith and even if I've spent hours arguing with them and finally got them to concede my point they say, "Well... That's why it's called Faith."

Politically, I take direct action. I support groups that share my interests and I vote against policies that do not hold my interests.

But here's the thing. You'll find FAR more people who can quote South Park than even can quote Rush Limbaugh or Bush. South Park claims to 'make fun of everyone' but usually tends to have a more right-wing spin to it. It's subtle but it's there and when people go around quoting stuff with spin, they're helping that ideal to permeate society. A well-written song, animation, movie, or story that can be shared and retold is FAR more powerful than hours of bitter argument. Of course, it carries its own set of problems. Not being too preachy, being misinterpreted, etc, but all in all, I'd rather have made something for many people than argued with a single person.
