Nope. I don't listen to Dawkins and wouldn't have any idea who Kitchens was if my partner hadn't mentioned something about him and a movie a while back.

I suppose I don't see the point to inflaming Christians any more. It doesn't do anything to make them smarter and doesn't really remove my contempt for them. The best outcome of that argument is that I walk away feeling smug and.. in the grand scheme of things, smugness isn't that great. There's lots of other things that are far more interesting and affirming to experience.

It's taken me a very very long time to learn this and I still haven't entirely learned it, but what I've found is that I don't care for war of any sort. In my mind, it's far better to create beauty and inspiration. I don't even want to think about how much of my life I wasted writing long passionate arguments against someone completely rigid in their view. If I had instead concentrated that energy into writing stories or making art or music that conveyed my ideas, even if I didn't change a single mind with it, I'd still have the satisfaction of having created something and learned new skills in the process of expressing my views and I'd probably have some of that smugness thrown in for good measure. It isn't a perfect solution but it's better than arguing with fence posts.
