It's been an exceptionally odd day. I've been a tiny hero off and on. This happens now and then.

Tracked down a bug for someone else at work.
At lunch I encountered a woman who was in a blind panic, didn't know how she'd got to mountain view and had no money, no ID, etc. She was trying to get home and coming completely unglued. I didn't have any money but I did have a train pass that would get her to her destination so I gave it to her and showed her where the train station was, just as the train arrived. When I mentioned the train, she'd said she was going to jump on it without a ticket and not care about the fines because she needed to get home. My ticket was a ten-ride pass that was expired but still had several punches on it. Generally in that case, if the conductor notices the expire, they'll mark the rest of the punches void but let you get to your destination. I hope that's how it worked out. I told her it was expired but that they don't generally check the dates as long as you have a current punch. Better than no ticket at any rate.

On my way into work this morning, I'd noticed an unusually nice coat laying at the edge of an empty lot and made a note to myself to give it a once-over if it was still there on the way back home. On the way back home, I saw that it was an unusually nice women's coat.

Here's the coat in question: http://www.bluefly.com/pages/products/detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=2066421565&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2056686003&rvform=true

It was starting to rain so I picked it put and took it home. Found a cell-phone in one pocket and got just enough of a charge to get the number of the phone and the most recent call and called ID. Tried calling them and eventually found the owner. She said it'd disappeared at a club Friday night and that there'd been a couple of dollars in the pocket. Those were gone but her coat and phone were fine and she's on her way to pick them up (and extremely happy to now only be out a few bucks but still have her rather expensive coat and phone)

I have weird little days like this every once in a while where I play very-low-level super hero for some strangers. I wonder what it means.

Hmm, nice coat. And apparently you can buy Robert Rodriguez there. I guess he's not doing so good with the movies lately.

My house gets mail for Robert Rodriguez sometimes. I wonder if he's ever going to come by and pick it up.

Maybe if it's something he wouldn't normally want, like a ValPak book, you can have him sign it then sell it on eBay for the value of the coupons + $100.

This is actually a non-funny joke about the fact that my late grandfather's name is Robert Rodriguez, and we occasionally still get mail addressed to him.
