Because personally, I want a floating, incredibly naive, long-haired, amnesiac android with funny ears to hug me around the waist and be overly devoted to me.
You could actually think those androids were human and not made out of plastic, though, which is a lot better than you can say about Ronald Reagan.
Humanoid robots have been around for ages but the trick is to get them human enough to overcome the 'uncanny valley'... Repliquee Q1 may have done this but it's hard to tell without video footage.
Because these androids have an AI installed in them and they can actually interact with people and are controlled by their programming.
The Hall of Presidents robots run the same speeches and programs every show and do not respond to touch or sound and are remotely controlled by humans.
I just hope that if and when these androids become commonplace, that we learn the lesson of "Matrix: The Second Renaissance"...basiclaly, an advanced enough AI would let the machine be self-aware with some emotional response, and at that point of sentience, they would deserve basic rights...in M:TSR, they denied the machines' rights and look what happened....
