Carried my iRiver to work today since I took the stupid car again. Got bored of KQED and hit the scan forward button. Landed on 89.7 the Foothill College radio station.

Forgot how much better college radio was than standard NPR. Granted, I was never that fond of KQED anyhow, I always liked the KTEH TV station better and for radio in Santa Cruz I listened to KZSC (UCSC's radio station) but anyhow.
Today I happened to tune in during a two-hour block of old jazz, big band and scat. They offered up some tickets that I woulda jumped on but I didn't catch the phone number. (They still had one set of the tickets after the break too so it's not a really heavily competitive station, it seems)

After the Jazz was 2 hours of Polkas. Crazy crazy polkas. Polkas with sax, polkas with electric guitar, polkas with yodelling... So many polkas with yodelling. Polkas enraged at WalMart, and so on. Polka your eyes out.

Now a new program started. No ID on what it is yet. The first song was entirely too long and sounded like Cookie Monster doing a cover of a Blag Flagg song or something. It was so awful it was kind of painfully amusing. Now it's sort of um..... acid jazz with lyrics in arabic and sort of a tango back beat. Definetely something experimental.

Yay for college radio!
