Art and School
Jan. 6th, 2005 11:37 pmHad my second design class today. Even remembered to dress warm enough so I wasn't totally freezing. I think I'm going to like it. It's a nicely homework heavy class and I picked up a few interesting ideas reading the assignments and the first chapter of the book that I want to play with. The first three assignments are to do 8 more or less semmertic circular designs. Next, pick 3 words out of a list of 50 and assemble them into some kind of picture, and finally, the assignment I knew was coming but dreaded. It's the 'cut up magazines and stick scraps of paper into a folder that you'll never look at again.' assignment. *cough* Oh. I'm sorry. I ment the 'visual database' assignment.
Seriously. With http://images.google.com, isn't this assignment obselete? I HATE cutting up magazines, even someone elses.
On the bright side, I asked and she said it was okay if I scanned them and virtually cut them up with photoshop. This is nice in my view. Pen tool practice and no piles of scrapped paper all over the place and gluestick all over everything. Also, at least this instructor doesn't require it be a collage as the other one did, and rather than being iconic pictures, hers is more the focus on things like 'texture', 'form', and stuff, so it's a lot more to my tastes. Actually, to be honest, I may end up liking this assignment this time. (I reallyreallyreallyREALLY hated this assignment when I had it in my previous design class but in that one, the instructor was unyeilding in that it be done in an arcane way)

A kind of freaky-looking werewolf. it's like a normal wolf wearing clothes but with human arms which are grotesquely out of proportion with his legs to the point of being interesting to me and, the only other thing I did today that I liked: The first rosette thing for my design class.
